Wheeling Heritage Celebrates 30 Years!
Wheeling Heritage announces its 30-year anniversary, marking three decades of dedication to revitalizing the Wheeling community. Designated as a National Heritage Area by Congress in 1994, Wheeling Heritage remains devoted to showcasing the industrial and cultural heritage of the city through collaborative programs, projects, and partnerships with the community, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private partners. With a focus on small business development, arts and culture, historic preservation, and grants and investments, Wheeling Heritage continues to be instrumental in the city’s ongoing growth and development.
“We are thrilled to commemorate 30 years of community impact and growth,” said Scott Schenerlein, executive director of Wheeling Heritage. “Our mission is to be a catalyst for the revitalization of Wheeling by preserving our city’s heritage and supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs.”
Wheeling Heritage has been at the forefront of revitalizing key landmarks in Wheeling over the past three decades, partnering on projects such as the Intermodal Transportation Center, Soldiers and Sailors Monument, Wheeling Capitol Theater, Wheeling Heritage Port, and Wheeling Stamping Building (ORRICK). Committed to preserving the city’s history while shaping its future, Wheeling Heritage continues to lead transformative initiatives. According to Schenerlein, “Projects like the newly renovated Wheeling Artisan Center and the redevelopment of the former Wheeling Inn site into the envisioned Wheeling Gateway Center underline our ongoing dedication to enhancing the city’s economic landscape.”
As Wheeling Heritage celebrates its anniversary, the organization will highlight milestone events and future endeavors throughout the year. From the success of Show of Hands to the festive Handmade Holiday and the inspirational Hip Hop event, there will be an array of activities for everyone to enjoy.
