Wheeling Heritage is calling on local artists to embrace the unusual for its upcoming exhibition, Arcana: A Gallery of the Strange, Mysterious and Unexpected. The exhibition invites artists to interpret the theme through their own creative lens and welcomes all artistic mediums to showcase work inspired by the curious and unconventional spirit of the season.
“Arcana refers to objects that are strange, secret, and mysterious. The intention of this exhibit is to invoke a sense of specialized knowledge, hidden rules, or obscure practices. Since West Virginia and the entire Appalachian region are steeped in such arcane folklore, we’re really looking for local artists to lean into the more eerie, historic, and literary side of the Halloween season this year,” said Ellery McGregor, director of programming at Wheeling Heritage.
