Wheeling Heritage Announces Small Business COVID Support Grant
WHEELING, W.Va. – Jan. 28, 2021 – Wheeling Heritage today announced that it is accepting applications
for its Small Business COVID Support Grant, which is made possible due to CARES Act funding. The grant
is open to Wheeling small business owners who can apply to receive up to $5,000 in assistance. Priority
will be given to those who have made efforts to creatively adapt during this pandemic.
“Small businesses around the world have had to adapt due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our local business owners have gotten creative and found new ways to be successful, but that has often
come with increased costs,” said Alex Weld, executive director of Wheeling Heritage.
“We’re hopeful that this small grant will enable our small business owners to continue playing an
important role in our community, while also providing some financial relief.”
Applications can be filled out and submitted at wheelingheritage.org/grants. To apply, a small business
must be located in the Wheeling Heritage Area (Wheeling city limits). Grant applications will be
reviewed and awarded on a weekly basis until funds are exhausted. Based on the demand and available
funds, some applicants may receive a partial award. One application for each individual or business will
be reviewed and only one grant will be awarded.
In April of 2020, the organization awarded a total of $25,000 to 41 artists, small business owners and
entertainers through a similar COVID-19 Emergency Grant. That program, which preceded state and
federal assistance programs, gave awardees up to $1,000, with priority given to those with immediate
needs of shelter, food and other essentials.
