Free Screening of The Goddess Project Coming to Wheeling
WHEELING, W.Va. – March 14, 2023 – In celebration of Women’s History Month, Towngate Theatre will be hosting a free, public screening of The Goddess Project. This screening will be held March 23 with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
The Goddess Project is a documentary film sharing inspiring stories from women across the United States. Determined to create more representation for women in media, two filmmakers packed their lives into a school bus and hit the road for what became the most transformative adventure of their lives. Through powerful conversations with over 100 women from different walks of life, The Goddess Project gives an intimate look into the collective experience that women in the United States face today.
This event is free and open to the public, but donations will be collected to benefit the YWCA Wheeling. The YWCA Wheeling is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Learn more about this work at ywcawheeling.org.
The film is recommended for ages 12 and older and covers topics such as negative effects of the media, trauma, and abuse, but is focused on some of the ways individuals can heal from these experiences. Other themes that the documentary covers includes taking the leap, traveling, aging and embracing life, and diversity and role models.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the documentary screening begins at 7:30 p.m. Beer, wine, soft drinks and popcorn are available for purchase from the concessions.
This event was made with support from the YWCA Wheeling, Oglebay Institute’s Towngate Theatre, Wheeling Heritage and local artist Mindi Yarbrough.
