Riley Carpenter Joins Wheeling Heritage as Director of Programming
WHEELING, W.Va. – July 24, 2024 – Wheeling Heritage is pleased to announce the appointment of Riley Carpenter as the new Director of Programming, starting Monday, July 22.
Carpenter, a lifelong resident of Wheeling, attended West Liberty University, where she earned an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. She furthered her education with a master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix and pursued a second master’s degree in Reading at West Liberty University.
With a rich background in education, Carpenter taught in Ohio County Schools for nine years. Her experience includes two years as a reading interventionist and community outreach representative with the Leaders of Literacy Grant, followed by seven years teaching kindergarten.
In 2020, Carpenter ventured into entrepreneurship by starting her own photography business, specializing in portrait and wedding photography. She particularly enjoys capturing family and lifestyle moments.
“I have loved living in Wheeling my entire life. When friends were ready to move away and start their lives after high school, I never wanted to leave. I knew I was right where I needed to be. Wheeling is my home and will forever be my home. It brings me immense pride and joy to have given back to the community in the field of public education for almost a decade. Now I have the opportunity to contribute in a different way, one that can hopefully make an even bigger impact on my community for years to come. Not just for Wheeling, but for me and my growing family,” said Carpenter.
Scott Schenerlein, executive director of Wheeling Heritage, expressed his enthusiasm about Carpenter’s appointment: “’I’m delighted that Riley has agreed to join us in building upon the strong programming foundation that already exists at Wheeling Heritage. With her background in education, I am hopeful that we can engage area schools and teach our youth the importance of preserving the past and building a bright future.”
