Wheeling Heritage and the Wheeling YWCA are back for the third “Hip Hop: A Black Tie Affair” on Saturday, February 24 at the Wheeling Artisan Center Gallery. This event celebrates the art form of Hip-Hop and the culture associated with it in several forms. The theme of this year’s event will focus on the role mixtapes have played in defining the hip-hop genre.

“The Mixtape” art exhibit invites artists to create their own visual and conceptual mixtape, bringing together elements of hip-hop culture through their chosen art form. Whether it's the beats of music, the creativity of fashion, the bold statements of graffiti, or any other element that speaks to you—this exhibit will showcase the far-reaching influence hip-hop continues to have on culture.

The Artisan Center Gallery invites artists of all levels of experience to submit their work. All mediums considered. Submissions are due by Friday, February 9. Visit wheelingheritage/hip-hop view the full call for submissions and apply.

Hip Hop: A Black Tie Affair will also include a video screening featuring a compilation of 16-bar verses submitted by local MCs, as well as house music and an old school DJ battle. More details coming soon!
