Community Invited to Help Create Juneteenth Mural at Wheeling Heritage Port
Wheeling Heritage and the Wheeling Arts and Cultural Commission are proud to announce a collaborative community art project that invites everyone to contribute on Tuesday, June 18, at Heritage Port. This initiative is part of the broader Wheeling Area Juneteenth Celebration.
Local artist Vondel Bell has been commissioned to design a pop-up mural that will feature prominent national and local leaders in the Black community. The mural’s design is inspired by this year’s Juneteenth theme: “We are our ancestors’ wildest dreams.”
Community members are encouraged to participate in bringing this mural to life by adding color to the design. This hands-on event will take place at Wheeling Heritage Port on Tuesday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. All supplies will be provided, making this a free and accessible event for all ages and skill levels.
The completed mural will be displayed on Wednesday, June 19, during the Wheeling Juneteenth Ceremony at Heritage Port, allowing everyone to appreciate the collaborative artwork.
