Wheeling Heritage is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $750,000 from the Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant, marking the second round of funding. In August 2023, The National Park Service (NPS) awarded nearly $9.7 million on Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grants to 13 subgrant programs spanning 12 states. This grant program aims to support the preservation of historic buildings in rural communities nationwide.

These grants represent the fifth year of funding for the Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant program, providing state and local governments, as well as nonprofit organizations, with the opportunity to develop subgrant programs and select individual projects that contribute to economic vitality through physical preservation projects in rural communities.

The Wheeling Historic Revitalization Subgrant Program, established as a result of this funding, is currently accepting applications from Monday, April 8, through Wednesday, May 22. An advisory committee guides this initiative to oversee the distribution of funds with eligible property owners and tenants to facilitate rehabilitation and repair projects for commercial, residential, and mixed-use structures across Wheeling's 12 historic districts. Subgrants ranging from $15,000 to $75,000 are available to support eligible projects.

Projects supported by the first round of the Wheeling Historic Revitalization Subgrant Program include the Waterfront Hall, SMART Centre Market, 1400 Block, and the historic Hughes Duplex located at 722-724 Main Street.
