YNST Magazine Wins Show of Hands
WHEELING, W.Va. – July 27, 2023 – After four local business pitches, You’re Not Seeing Things Magazine (YNST) won the crowd over receiving the most votes, winning Wheeling’s Show of Hands. The owner, Adam Payne, took home more than $7,000 for his new arts and culture magazine.
Show of Hands is a community-supported crowdfunded event hosted by Wheeling Heritage. Each presenter had a one-minute video, produced by the Wheeling Heritage media team, that played before they gave their four-minute pitch. Online voting was also available for those who could not be in attendance in person.
Payne created YNST Magazine to amplify the unseen creative voices of Appalachia’s arts and culture. Funding from Show of Hands will go toward a new website development, marketing, and distribution of the magazine.
“I was beyond honored to be awarded funding in the Show of Hands,” said Adam Payne, owner and creator of YNST Magazine. “The event is so special because you get to see the community supporting small businesses in real time. The energy and support we, and the other presenters, received was absolutely wonderful. Using the resources we received in Show of Hands, we will be able to increase our marketing and distribution, participate in numerous vending events in the state this year, and gear up to launch our next issue. We are immensely grateful for everyone who made last night possible.”
The event’s other presenters included:
Scott Schenerlein, Wheeling Heritage’s Executive Director, said “Show of Hands is one of our most popular programs.” Schenerlein continued, “Wheeling is made up of so many amazing small businesses and supporting those is key to having a great city and downtown. Thanks to our sponsors and attendees as their support is crucial to making this event a success.”
Show of Hands is hosted three times per year. The next Show of Hands is scheduled for March of 2024 at the Wheeling Artisan Center, 1400 Main Street. Applications will be available for businesses to apply at a future date on Wheeling Heritage’s website.
Since its creation in 2014, Show of Hands has given over $123,000 to projects and businesses that make Wheeling a special place to live. Orrick, the program’s corporate sponsor, donates $1,000 for each event. The Friends of Show of Hands, which consists of community members and business owners, also contributes to each event.
