The Intermodal Center, officially the Robert C. Byrd Intermodal Transportation Center, was constructed as part of the development of Wheeling’s waterfront.
The facility was built to answer the removal of the Wharf Parking Garage in 1998. The removal of the Wharf Garage opened up riverfront views and allowed for the creation of Heritage Port. However, a new garage had to be built in the area to accommodate parking.
Completed the same year that the Wharf Garage was removed, the Intermodal Center serves not only as a parking garage, but also as the home of the Wheeling-Ohio County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Wheeling’s Public Market.
The Intermodal Center is located adjacent to the Artisan Center, WesBanco Arena, Capitol Theatre and Heritage Port.
