Join us at the Artisan Center Gallery for the grand opening of  Budding Wheeling Student Gallery: The Last Flower Stand on Wednesday, November 6, from 6 to 8 PM. The exhibition will run through December 3.
Budding Wheeling is a seven-month agricultural entrepreneurship program for youth ages 13-17, where participants learn business and farming skills by running their own flower farming business. This season, the program expanded to include an arts education component, formed with the intent to expand on the concept that not only are our flowers a resource, but the time, effort, labor, and voices of our local youth are valuable as well.
The exhibition showcases the creative works of participants, who transformed flowers from their gardens into a variety of art forms—fresh and dried bouquets, flower pounding, pressed buds, pigments, handmade paper, and more. The gallery will also feature work from fourth and fifth graders at Laughlin Memorial Chapel, who participated in a condensed version of the program. Their work includes screen prints, collages, and a large-scale color print, along with photographs documenting the process from garden to gallery.
Come celebrate the creativity and effort of Wheeling’s youth, and experience how the beauty of flowers—and the value of their labor—can be transformed into art.
