First Friday Artist Spotlight Series Featuring Pat Mercer
May 6 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Wheeling Heritage’s First Friday Artist Spotlight Series is a new event featuring a different local artist or maker each month. This event is designed to be a laid-back way of getting to know the artists that make our community a more vibrant place to live while creating your own work of art!
Our May Artist Spotlight Series will feature Pat Mercer, the maker behind Basket Case, a Wheeling-based handmade basket business. Pat’s baskets are influenced by various styles and materials from the Appalachian region and from various destinations that she’s traveled to. Most of her pieces combine function and form for a decorative piece with practical use. Unless specifically asked to weave an exact duplicate, Pat prefers to innovate and seldom repeats designs.
At this event, attendees will learn about Pat’s journey to creating her basket business, the various weaving patterns and materials she uses, and more! Attendees will also be guided through a simple basket-weaving project to make and take home.
This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are encouraged to ensure that enough supplies are available. RSVP by sending an email to apanas@wheelingheritage.org or by calling 304-232-3087.
