The spoken history project was conceived and implemented during the time when Wheeling was being considered for National Heritage Area designation. Through this project, the city’s historic and natural resources were documented through oral histories, beginning in 1994.
Dr. Michael and Carrie Kline, with a team of volunteers, performed the interviews and compiled the data. They produced several broadcasts for radio, with examples provided below, as well as some of the interviews. In total, over 150 interviews were conducted over the course of the survey resulting in several hundred hours of recordings.
